the cockpit 01

The 'coaming' ring surrounding the cockpit entrance is made up from layers of marine mahogany plywood called 'spacers'. These are glued to the deck in two sets of pairs, followed by a keyhole shaped ring of plywood glued on top. But first, the area to be glued is carefully sanded down to ensure a proper mechanical bond with the epoxy resin, and as usual, I use masking tape to define this area. After sanding, the tape is removed to begin a procedure that involves three separate glueing and clamping operations.
