fibreglassing the hull 03

Coating the hull by wetting out the cloth with epoxy resin is a big job that takes an awful lot of concentration. This is what it looks like after the first coat. The trick is to work with small amounts of epoxy using a light but firm touch with a squeegee to pull the resin through the cloth from the keel apex down the sides, while keeping the leading edge of the wet resin constantly moving to avoid staining of the wood. After this is done, I go over the hull inch by inch looking for tiny air bubbles under the cloth which are pricked out with a stiff bristled dry paint brush.
